S. Prasannakumar

Prasannakumar forwards questions of polarities through his works. Prasannakumar belongs to a generation that was caught up in the turmoil of the mid eighties. He tries to find out answers to issues related to the origin and the existence of art in human society. For him sculptures are, perhaps, tentative resolutions.
Prasannakumar works on large formats using unconventional materials. In the early nineties, when residing in Delhi, he created a rough sky within a gallery, using fibreglass. Conceived in a big way, this work had created much talk amongst the Delhi art crowd. 'Heat and Cold" is the title of the sculpture shown in this page. The ambiguous positioning of a female figure between two uneven poles seems to create tension not only that of art but also of human existence.
