The first Principal of the
Fine Arts College Thiruvananthapuram, Porinchukutty
witnessed the birth of the Radical Group in its nascent form in the late
seventies and mid-eighties. As the man at the helm of an ark of talents
that had been caught in stormy days, he had the responsibility to save
it from wrecking. Perhaps this could be cited as one reason why the artist
has become so inward looking and mooring on existential issues. Porinchukutty's
works do not display much colour and madness. They are serene and subdued.
Being a figurative artist, like any other modernist, he takes interest
in the female body as a place of action and medium of explanation.
