B.D.Dethan

Dethan's paintings reveal the hind-most side of human existance. Dethan has a special eye for the grotesque. Through an expressionist palette he tries to present what lies under the happy surface of our society. These bitter visions in more than one way, have led the artist to take solace in repeatedly painting them, as is an act of exorcising. The images thus he has conjured up from the daily filth of life stand in front of society, shaming and shocking it to the cores. A series of drawings titled 'Kali', done by him during 1991-92 has been hailed as the true representation of our fragmented times.
The agony and despair seen often in his works do not make Dethan an incorr
igible pessimist. On the contrary, he maintains the gravity of a great tragedian. He intends to evoke a cathartic effect within the onlooker.
